Timeline Overview

2010
Ford Ironman Louisville
This was one of the hardest races I have ever run. Had bruises on the balls of my feet during the bike that got progressively worse when I did the marathon. I finished and that was the main goal.

The weather ended up being absolutely perfect for a race. My race was not perfect (to say the least). I really hoped being off for 5 weeks before wouldn't matter due to my injury and that my injury wouldn't pop up but it did in a big way. I was able to run Boston qualifying pace for 10 miles but the problems started around mile 6 when my right hip started hurting as I think I was favoring my left foot - not good. Then around mile 7 my left foot started hurting - again, not good with 19+ to go. Then around mile 14 I wasn't even sure I could run as my other foot (heel) started hurting. I was really hurting and pushed up through mile 16 and then the pain of running was too much - had to walk (prefer not to ever do it but was committed to finishing and sharing the medal with my son Braden). From this point on it was mostly walking which really sucked as it hurt but I knew I could push through the pain to the end and call it a day. If there ever was a race I should've DNF'd it was this one at mile 10 but it just isn't who I am. I finished in 4:42:33. It was a long morning. Was a good feeling to finish but I'd rather it be much, much faster. I'll be back to race fast on this course someday soon.

Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon & Half Marathon, 4 Person Relay
I was just getting back into shape after my bike accident from late last year so I decided to pace a running friend of mine. We were able to run a solid 8:55 pace which was huge for him and allowed him to PR and beat a couple other friends. Running some 25+ minutes off my PR was actually much harder than I thought it would be as I did have to verbally pull him through in a few tough spots. Perfect conditions for the race.

Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon & Half Marathon, 4 Person Relay
I did this race as part of a brick workout while training for Ironman Couer d'Alene. I woke up at 4 a.m. and headed downtown and biked 20 miles through the hills of Cincinnati prior to the race. The race itself felt pretty good and I did slow just a bit the last 2 miles. I did hop back on the bike after the race and paced Jim and Jed in from mile 25 of the marathon.

Personal Record -- 03:31:48 in Marathon
I went to the Air Force Marathon with hopes of qualifying for Boston. I managed to stay with the 3:20 group up until about the 22 mile mark and just couldn't hang anymore. It was a hot day and I gave all I had and ended up short this time.

This was my first Ironman Triathlon and Couer d'Alene was an absolutely beautiful area and great town for this event. The whole week and race itself is documented on my blog - www.ironmandifference.com. The only spot were I really struggled was at mile 16 on the run - had to walk for a quarter mile to settle my stomach. After that I ran mile to mile to finish strong. I was around 1:21 for the swim, 6:23 for the bike and a 4:04 marathon.

East Fork Triathlon & Duathlon
Personal Record -- 01:30:13 in Triathlon Sprint
This was my first ever triathlon as swim, bike & run. I did do the bike portion on my mountain bike as I did not have my tri bike yet. It went pretty well even though it absolutely poured down rain on the run. I still managed to run a 22 something for the 5K. I also somehow managed to win my division which was a bonus.

This was my first 5K road race back after a few years completely off of any exercise. It was also a time trial to see where I stand for the training I just got underway for my first Ironman Triathlon in 2008.

Columbus Marathon
Personal Record -- 01:31:26 in Half Marathon
This was my first major race since my break from running. The cross training really paid off as I was able to hold sub 7 (6:59) pace for the entire race. I was a bit under that up through mile 10 and then my last 3 miles were a touch slower but I held it together pretty well. The weather conditions were perfect for the half but it did heat up for the marathon as my friends Gary and Jim struggled in that race.

ING New York City Marathon
I did the New York City Marathon with Team In Training and primarily did it because a friend was doing it. I trained some but wasn't in great shape but better then when I did Bermuda earlier in the year. The marathon itself was awesome and is one of my top races that I've run and one that I would highly recommend.

Bermuda International Race Weekend
This was my first marathon since 92 and I really didn't train well for it and it showed. This was with Team-In-Training and that was a fun group and for a good cause. The marathon itself was a loop course and when you run a slow marathon it just compounds the any issues as you know exactly how far you still need to run.

Columbus Marathon
This was my first real competitive marathon having completed college and coming off of running varsity track and cross country at Bowling Green. I really did not train well for a marathon and most of my training was probably better geared for a 10k to Half but I wanted to try a marathon. I met up with a former teammate at the starting line and he said he was going to run 2:50 and qualify for Boston. I thought sure, why not, count me in. Well, we went through the half at 1:25 and it was hard and I told him I needed to back off. At mile 18 it hit me like a ton of bricks - I hit the wall big time. It took me about 2 hours to run the second half. I hurt more after that race then any race I've run in my life.

Personal Record -- 00:32:59 in 10K
This is always a fun race to run on Thanksgiving. The course was when they ran the race as a point-to-point from Newport, Kentucky to Downtown Cincinnati, Ohio. It was pretty cold this year but I was happy with my time.

Personal Record -- 00:04:14 in 1 Mile
This was one of those races where my training and timing to run a great race just came together. The race itself was hard but I felt great during and after it. I think I finished 7th and was pleased as I PR'd by almost 6 seconds.

This was a race I was not scheduled to run but my coach decided to put me in to get more of a workout on the day. I had only run a mile race earlier in the meet and set a PR, but I did feel really good. I just ran within myself and ended up setting a PR for the 5000 as well.

This was my sophomore year of college and and my first year running as varsity on the Cross Country team at Bowling Green State University. The course was run along a flat grassy area along the river and campus and I had a very solid and steady race that day. My 26:09 proved to be my personal best at 8K.
